Carlos Almeida has nurtured a passion for drawing and sketching since childhood.
At just five years old, he was inspired by a cousin's sketch of a man's profile, igniting his desire to try it himself. From that moment, he has diligently drawn everything around him.
In his teenage years, he developed a keen interest in architecture, which deepened his love for drawing. After earning his degree from the University of Lisbon in Portugal, he became an architect. Now based in Baltimore, Maryland, Carlos serves as an associate design principal at a global architecture and engineering firm, leveraging his experience from several renowned international design studios.
Hand-drawing remains essential for him both professionally and personally. He carries sketchbooks during his travels to capture urban spaces and buildings, using a straightforward vocabulary to convey the energy he senses in various environments, depicted in both color and black and white. This visualization process reflects his minimalist philosophy, evident in his simple sketches, which he refers to as Carlos' sketchviews.
He firmly believes that less is better, and his work embodies this principle.
